Villa Ceria

Villa Ceria is a two-storey house built around teak: teak doors and window frames, a teak four-poster in the main bedroom and a coffee table cut from a single root. The living room runs the full depth of the house, and its folding doors open the whole wall onto the pool and a walled tropical garden.

Downstairs is one open space with a lounge, a deep sofa and rattan armchairs, a stone-top dining table and a kitchen with an oven, a large fridge and stone counters. There is a separate utility room with a washing machine, and the villa has a high-speed internet connection for working and streaming.

The villa has three bedrooms. The main bedroom has the four-poster, air conditioning and a ceiling fan. Upstairs, a bedroom with a low platform bed opens through glass doors onto a balcony above the palms. The main bathroom has a freestanding tub, a double vanity in black and gold marble and a stone wall planted with greenery, and there is an outdoor shower in the garden.

You come in through a carved Balinese gate, across a courtyard of stepping stones and white pebbles and past a small pond with a water spout. In the evening the garden and the pool are lit.

Jalan Padang Tawang is in Canggu, on the south-west coast of Bali. Canggu is known for its surf beaches, cafés and coworking spaces, and it is one of the easiest parts of the island to settle into for a longer stay.
